We are in our early 20's, when I wrote "Heavy Flag" I was thinking about our future, the weight and responsibility of our generation to care for our resources and for each other. While I was writing the song, I had a book open to the famous photo "Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima". The weight of that flag being both physical and psychological struck me as a powerful statement. We have a collective responsibility to carry that weight. The time for that statement is now.

I shiver like a paper bag
The cold can wave a heavy flag
And nothing shines like silver lines
When everyone’s a paradigm
And all around is double speak,
I hide it in a troubled sleep
In mountains bare on pavement plain
In waves of pesticided grain

A farrago of motion sick
